Sydney Morning Herald 'Safer Sydney' $2,500 Poster Design Contest Launch

Dear designers of Australia and the world,

We Need You!

We have just launched an awesome in-house freelance graphic design job poster design contest for our designer community: The Sydney Morning Herald $2,500 Ad Poster Design Contest.

Background

After a spate of alcohol fuelled violence in Sydney, The Sydney Morning Herald (the Herald / SMH) has launched the 'Safer Sydney' ad challenge to help curb alcohol-fuelled violence in nightlife hotspots around Sydney.

DesignCrowd has teamed up with the Herald and launched the SMH poster design contest to crowdsource poster design ideas from our global design community.

Requirements

Designers from Australia and around the world are invited to create an A4 poster design that promotes personal responsibility and safe drinking practices by young men to reduce the incidents of alcohol-related violence in Sydney.

Submission Criteria

Whether you use humour or brutal honesty, the winning DesignCrowd entry will be one that:

  • speaks to the target market - Young Men
  • is actually interesting / appeals to the target market – Young Men
  • may be funny or at least attention gaining to the target market – Young Men
  • has a strong slogan or message
  • geared towards changing people's mindsets and / or behaviours around alcohol related violence
  • has the capacity to go viral
  • is original work and you must have permission to use copyrighted materials
  • suitable for use in a mainstream media advertising campaign

Target Audience

The primary audience is Males, 18-25, living in Sydney. These are often average guys, who have all the same interests of other young men and are out on a Thursday, Friday or Saturday night, drinking. Just like many other young men they get drunk – but the difference is that they then engage in anti-social behaviour like starting fights or random acts of violence, causing distress and injury.

Content

Poster designs can be entirely typographic i.e. that is just a slogan; or combine a slogan with an image / illustration. You decide.

Format

A4 graphic, 300 DPI, landscape or portrait in shape.

The winning graphic could be used in print, digital or both. The strength of your design will be its ability to translate across different mediums.

Examples include: Billboard, Phone Poles, Bathroom / Bar signage, Bustop Signage, Bus/Train Advertising, Online Banner Ads, Website Content, Facebook Photos or Wall Post and other social networks.

The Prizes: $2,500 To Win!

The winning places will be judged by the SMH Safer Sydney panel of judges and awarded by DesignCrowd. The winning designs will be displayed on the SMH website.

  • 1st Prize: $1,000
  • 2nd Prize: $500
  • 3rd Prize: $400
  • People's Choice Award Prize: $400 (via SMH poll)
  • 4 x $50 Participation Payments
