Netflix Launched a New Logo

Netflix, the popular internet streaming service, recently launched an experimental new logo – the first update to its image since the original logo first premiered in the late ‘90s when it was a DVD by mail-order company. Abandoning the economic Graphique font (created by Swiss designer Hermann Eidenbenz in 1945) featuring narrow letters and an outline shadow suitable for posters and book covers, the new design is simpler, flatter, lighter and muted. Many in the designer community called it "boring," "a downgrade," and even missing an "excuse to exist."

We decided it would be a fun design challenge to see what the global design community could come up with in the form of alternative logo designs and launched the Netflix logo redesign contest.

DesignCrowd offered designers $400 prize to design a new logo. Over 25 logo designers from the USA, UK, Romania, India and beyond participated in the logo contest and submitted a combined total of 43 alternative Netflix logo designs.
