Be it to play it, watch it, or efforts to pointedly ignore it, there's really little escaping the wide world of sports. Here at DesignCrowd we totally love sports, not least for the myriad of design opportunities associated with all formats. There's always a team in need of a uniform or game flyer somewhere, and designing logos that convey ambition and team spirit can be especially fun and rewarding.
There are lots of ways sports teams like to communicate their core values, many of which come quickly into focus when looking at the world's most successful and well-known brands. In Forbes' line-up of most valuable sports teams we see some very clear trends emerging in terms of sports team logo design.
Many teams opt for round designs, which aren't just appropriate for their resemblance to a ball, but also because they signify team spirit and coherence. The same is achieved by the color blue, which is very popular in sports, standing for community and steadfastness. This is most often combined with a fiery red, as blue can also signify low energy or stuffiness. Energetic red makes up for this and shows a competitive edge.

We also see a lot of animal logos, particularly anything known to be fast, strong or dangerous: Bulls, birds of prey, horses and big game cats are particularly popular. Other teams prefer to evoke their heritage, using stylized images of ancestors or coats of arms to represent themselves.
Whichever style they chose, all these teams have highly original and instantly recognizable logos. If you're currently in the market for a team emblem, make sure to pick something that communicates the values of your team and sets it apart from your opponents. We're sure our own team of winning designers will give it their best shot.
